Mountain Biker Breakfast

Mountain biking is one of my favorite hobbies / passions.  Few things are as liberating and it is great exercise.  I learned at a young age with bikes that there is a difference between a Huffy and a Haro. Quality performance comes at a price.  Recently though, I have learned that having a sweet ride does no good if you do not eat the right meal before riding.  I would like to share with you with a simple yet balanced, calorie-packed meal that I enjoy eating before riding.

Disclaimer: This is a heavy meal, so I suggest a minimum of 1 hour digestion time before riding or you might end up like this $#@! guy here or that $#@! guy over there!

The basic ingredients for the M.B.B. are:
  1. Eggs. Either "grow your own" or buy them at the grocery store.  Free Range / Organic or not (?). 1 egg per rider, two or if they are hungry or brave.
  2. Bacon.  Two of the best: Bacon #1, Bacon #2. Bacon A, Bacon Eh?, Bacon B, Bacon C. A quarter-pound of bacon per rider.  (You can never have too much bacon, however.)
  3. BreadChoose 1: English Muffins, BagelsCroissantsToastTexas Toast, or even Powdered Toast.
  4. Cheese.  Sliced on the bread, grated in the eggs, it's your choice.  Cheddar works both ways.
  5. Fresh Fruit. Apples, Oranges, Bananas, Grapes, Pears, Berries, etc. 1 piece / cup per rider.
M.B.B. Assembly
  • Fryscramble, or poach the eggs as you desire.  With scrambled eggs, you can add: grated cheese or diced-peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, etc.  Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Fry the bacon to your favorite level of doneness.  Use a cast iron skillet.  Otherwise you are using an inferior tool to fry your bacon.
  • Toast your bread.
  • Starting at the bottom: bread, (slice of cheese), eggs, bacon, (slice of cheese), (lettuce), (mayo), bread.
Drink a glass of water while eating this. It will help with digestion and hydration.  Remember what mom said also, chew your food.  Don't choke before the ride. Eat up, enjoy, and crank those pedals. Let me know if you try this quick meal.

      1. Just found this blog. Love it man. Really cool diverse stuff.

I am doing the bacon recipe tomorrow.

      2. How did the bacon turn out? I am glad you like it so far. I am focusing on trying to keep everything fresh and relevant. It has been fun doing the regular updates.
