Netflix Gem: Goemon

It is no secret that Netflix has taken the business world by storm. Various reports show traffic has greatly increased for Netflix. Everyone is trying to get a piece of the pie now, especially the owners of the pipes and tubes that bring the content into your house. Monthly transfer caps do nothing but limit the usefulness of streaming products.

Anyway, enough ranting. The point of this post is to get you to watch Goemon the next time you get a chance. It is an excellent ninja movie. The fights are spectacular and the visuals are eye-catching. It is shot with a bright, vivid color palette for some scenes and then gets dark and gritty when necessary. If you are a fan of anime, you'll enjoy Goemon. Even if you're not a fan of anime, you'll enjoy Goemon.

It is based loosely on Japanese folklore dating to the 1500's. The main character is modeled after Ishikawa Goemon and he features the crazy ninja skills and the Robin Hood personality. There are some steam-punk elements to the movie as well, with arms dealing Christians providing some interesting props to the Japanese.

The voice-over acting is pretty good, though I would prefer subtitles. If you've got some time to kill and are looking for a good fight and some excellent visual film making, give Goemon a shot.
